Our tour will start with a drive through picturesque little villages as we make our way to the incomparable setting of the mountain of Montserrat. We will then visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, home of the famous Romanesque carving of the Black Virgin. According to legend, the image of the Lady of Montserrat was found in a cave in the year 880 and sometime between the 12th to the 15th centuries, the Romanesque church was built in honor of the Lady of Montserrat. See one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Spain, visited by faithful all over the world for hundreds of years. You just might be fortunate enough to catch a delightful performance by the children’s choir at midday.
After visiting Montserrat, we will get the chance to see the works of Spanish masters Gaudi and Picasso.
Admire the numerous treasures left behind by Antonio Gaudi, one of the greatest architects in Barcelona. The tour starts along Passeig de Gracia, location of several of the city’s most celebrated architectural structures. See Gaudi’s famous apartment buildings, including the Casa Batllo and La Pedrera. Enjoy a 30-minute visit at Gaudi’s Parc Guell which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See this fascinating garden complex on the hill of el Carmel. Get lost in the whimsical design of this compelling public park. We will continue on to the La Sagrada Familia Cathedral, Barcelona’s most famous landmark and Gaudi’s unfinished masterpiece.
We will then visit Barcelona’s Monumental Bull Ring and the famous Cathedral of Sta. Maria del Mar, the only completely finished gothic church in Catalonia. We will end the tour near the Picasso Museum where you can see works from the blue and pink periods of Pablo Picasso. You can choose to remain in the Museum or go back to our starting point.
